By adopting new Law on Free Access to Information, which started with implementation in February 2013, Agency gained new competences and obligations which required changes, in organisational as well in working methods.
Agency has status of a legal person with relevant public authority competences. Main competence of the Agency is enabling adequate supervision in the areas of personal data protection and free access to information in accordance with relevant legislation, principles and standard contained in ratified international human right treaties, basic freedoms and general accepted rules of international law. In performing affairs within its scope of work, Agency is autonomous and independent.
Methodological constrain – Report on the status of personal data protection and status in the area of access to information for 2018 drafted by the Agency for Personal Data Protection and Free Access to Information does not contain specific recommendations for improving the situation in the fields of personal data protection and free access to information. The following section outlines only relevant parts of the Report which are referring to analysis in the field of personal data protection and the area of free access to information.
